Can onion become a noose for the government again? this is the big reason

Jaydutt Holkar, director of Mumbai APMC, says that during the months of February, March and April this year, the rate of onion had come down significantly in the mandis of Maharashtra. In such a situation, the farmers had to bear heavy losses. Many farmers even threw onions on the roadside.

The central government has geared up to put a brake on the rising prices of onions. For this, she is taking quick decisions. First, it decided to release 3 lakh tonnes of onions from the buffer stock in the open market. After this, 40 percent duty was imposed on the export of onions. However, due to these decisions of the central government, onion producing farmers have become angry. They have opened a front against the government. Especially the farmers of Maharashtra have requested the government to withdraw its decision. If this is not done, the farmers have threatened to launch a nationwide agitation against the government.

At the same time, onion producer associations said that the government should announce a minimum price to implement import duty. For this, Horticulture Produce Exporters Association (HPEA) has also written a letter to the Central Government. In the letter, HPEA has said that imposition of 40 percent import duty will have a huge impact on onion exports. Due to this, there will be a decline in the export of onions, due to which the farmers will suffer a lot. In such a situation, the government should fix the minimum price of onions.

In fact, for the last few weeks, like tomatoes, the prices of onions are also increasing. The onion available at Rs 20 to 25 per kg has reached Rs 40 to 45 per kg in the retail market. This increased the pressure on the government regarding inflation. This is the reason why the central government has increased the duty on the export of onions by 40 percent.

Farmers got angry

However, after the government announced the imposition of 40 per cent duty on onion exports, the prices have come down to some extent. This has caused loss to the farmers. In such a situation, the farmers have become angry with the government. Especially in many areas of Maharashtra, angry farmers have started protests. On the other hand, onion traders of Nashik closed their shops in the mandis on Monday against this decision of the Center. After this the farmers also became furious and they have announced to vote against BJP in the general elections.

Please tell that because of onion, BJP had to lose power in the center as well. Then Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister. During that time onion had become 70 to 80 rupees per kg. In such a situation, the Congress had made it an issue during the general elections, due to which the BJP had to face defeat.

Export of non-basmati rice had to be banned

With the arrival of monsoon this year, inflation started increasing in the country. Especially the price of vegetables caught fire. The retail inflation rate was recorded at 7.44% in the month of July, which was 4.81% in June. Apart from vegetables, pulses, wheat, flour and rice have also become expensive. In such a situation, to curb rising prices, the central government had to ban the export of non-basmati rice.
