Section (11) of Part-II Para 2.2 of the Flag Code of India 2002 states that if a person wants to hoist the tricolor flag in his house or balcony, what things he has to take care of.

How can we hoist the tricolor at home?
Before the year 2002, common people could hoist the tricolor only on Independence Day or Republic Day. But now it is not so. Now you can hoist the pride of your country anytime. However, for this also you have to follow some rules. These rules are given in the Indian Flag Code. It has been told in clause (11) of Part-II Para 2.2 of this Indian Flag Code 2002, that if a person wants to hoist the tricolor flag in his house, he can hoist it throughout the day and night. However, while hoisting the flag, you have to take care that the flag should not be torn in any way. Even if it bursts by mistake, then it should not be disrespected. One thing is also mentioned in this rule that whenever the flag is hoisted in the house, it should be kept in mind that the flag should be placed in an open place and there should not be any other flag above the tricolor.
Where can't you put the flag?
You must have noticed that on 15th August and 26th January, most of the people roam around with tricolor on their vehicles. However, this is completely illegal and you can be punished for doing so. In fact, according to the Flag Code of India, only 225*150 mm size flags will be used on vehicles. Along with this, let us tell you that a common man cannot put a tricolor on his car. Only some constitutional dignitaries have the special right to hoist the flag. In this- President, Vice-President, Governor, Lieutenant-Governor, Prime Minister, Cabinet Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker, Rajya Sabha Speaker, Chief Minister of States or Union, Heads of Indian Missions, Posts abroad, Speakers of Legislative Assemblies, Chief Justice of India Only High Court judges can use the tricolor on their vehicles.
