South China Sea: In order to loosen China's stranglehold in the South China Sea, like America, Japan and Australia are going to conduct war exercises together. For this, Japan is also including its largest warship in this exercise. This joint military drill will give a tremendous chill to China. This is the area which China tells as its part and prevents the ships of other countries from coming. On August 5, China attacked a Philippine ship passing through this area with a water cannon. The information about the military drill of America, Japan and Australia has been given by the security officials of the Philippines only. The Philippines has told that it will include 3 aircraft and helicopters. Their commanders will soon meet in Manila for a meeting.
America does not claim China Sea
America has no claim on any area of South China Sea. Despite this, America has been drilling in this area. America says that by doing this it is helping other countries, especially Japan and the Philippines. Aircraft carrier USS America will be deployed from the US side in the joint military drill.
Japan and Australia will deploy these warships
Japan will deploy one of its largest warships, JS Izumo. At the same time, HMAS Canberra will be deployed from the Australian side. The preparation for the drill was done two months in advance. Despite claims on many areas of the South China Sea, the Philippines is not participating in this military drill.
America criticized the attack on Philippines
On August 5, the US criticized China's water cannon attack on a Philippines ship. America had said that the security of the area is at risk due to such activities being done continuously by China. If there is an attack on Philippine ships, aircraft or armed forces, the US will invoke the US-Philippines Defense Treaty of 1951. Recently, America had also entered into an agreement with the Philippines. Under this, America can use military camps in the Philippines. China strongly criticized this agreement.
What is the South China Sea dispute?
An area of about 3.5 million square kilometers of the South China Sea is disputed. It has been claimed by China, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan and Brunei. Large reserves of oil and gas are buried in the South China Sea. According to the US, the area has reserves of 213 billion barrels of oil and 900 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Vietnam has invited India to join efforts to find oil in this area. Every year 7 trillion dollar business is done through this sea route. In late 2013, China ran a major project to convert the underwater reef area into an artificial island.
