CPL 2023: Brandon King hit 54 runs in 12 balls in a stormy innings, Jamaica beat St Lucia Kings by 11 runs

 

Jamaica Tallawahs on Thursday (August 17) won the first match of the Caribbean Premier League 2023 played at the Darren Sammy International Cricket Stadium on the basis of a stormy half-century by Brandon King.

After being invited to bat first, Jamaica scored 187 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Top scorer Brandon King scored 81 runs in 53 balls with the help of 9 fours and 3 sixes. He scored 54 runs in his innings in just 12 balls with the help of fours and sixes. However, apart from him, no other player of the team could make a big contribution.

For St. Lucia, Roston Chase took 3 wickets, Alzarri Joseph took 2 wickets, Matthew Forde and Chris Soul took 1-1 wickets.

Chasing the target, St. Lucia Kings got the first blow in the form of captain Faf du Plessis (9) on a total score of 25 runs. Johnson Charles (24) and Sean Williams (26) got starts but could not convert them into big innings. 

Roston Chase along with Roshan Primus handled the innings and shared a 61-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Both brought the team close to victory, but within 3 balls both were dismissed and returned to the pavilion. Chase scored 53 runs in 31 balls with the help of 4 fours and 3 sixes. At the same time, Primus played a blistering inning of 37 runs in 20 balls.

For Jamaica, Imad Wasim took 3 wickets, Salman Irshad and Chris Green took 2-2 wickets.
