CPL 2023: Johnson Charles avoids serious injury, ball hits helmet, watch video

 

St Lucia Kings opener Johnson Charles attempted a scoop shot against Trinbago Knight Riders in the 9th match of Caribbean Premier League 2023 but the ball did not hit the bat well and he was almost injured in the face. At the same time, St. Lucia won this match by 54 runs. In this match, Knight Riders won the toss and decided to bowl first. 

The incident happened in the 12th over of Kings' innings when Charles tried to scoop a low full toss from Dwayne Bravo at fine leg. After connecting with the ball, Charles was unable to get his body out of line as the ball clipped his helmet. During this, Charles lost his balance and the ball hit his helmet and he was removed. 

Batting first, St. Lucia scored 167 runs losing 5 wickets in 20 overs. The maximum 57 (36) runs from the team came off the bat of captain Faf du Plessis. In this innings, he hit 8 fours and a six. Apart from him, Charles contributed 37 runs in 31 balls with the help of one four and 3 sixes. Both of them played a partnership of 85 (58) runs for the first wicket. Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo took 2-2 wickets for Trinbago Knight Riders. One wicket went to Ali Khan. 

Chasing the target, the Knight Riders team got piled on the score of 113 in 14.5 overs. Captain Kieron Pollard scored the maximum 34 (15) runs from the team. In this innings, he hit 3 fours and 3 sixes. At the same time, Mark Deyal played an inning of 33 runs in 19 balls with the help of 4 fours and 2 sixes. Khary Pierre took the maximum 4 wickets from St. Lucia. Roston Chase and Sikandar Raza got 2-2 wickets. Alzarri Joseph and Peter Hatzoglu were successful in taking one wicket each.
