Prabhu Sharma, a 56-year-old farmer, is cultivating a variety of vegetables, including papaya, in just one bigha of land. He said that he has been doing gardening for five years.
People feel that the farmers of Bihar still cultivate only traditional crops as before. But this is not the case. Farmers of Bihar are now cultivating many types of vegetables including mango, guava, pomegranate, amla, apple, orange and papaya like farmers of other states. Due to this, the income of the farmers has also increased. Many farmers have come out of the poverty line because of horticulture and are living a happy life. Today we will talk about a farmer who has convinced the state government of his hard work.
Actually, we are talking about Prabhu Sharma, a resident of Sankh Panchayat of Begusarai. He has set an example in front of the people with his hard work. He is earning 10 times more than before from papaya and green vegetable farming. They are now counted as progressive farmers in the district. Prabhu Sharma says that earlier he used to cultivate traditional crops. Due to this, he was not getting that much good income. In such a situation, he made up his mind to try his hand at gardening. For this, he also visited the offices of the education department, but he did not get any help from there. Prabhu Sharma did not get any subsidy from the Horticulture Directorate. In such a situation, he started gardening by taking a loan from the neighbors.
40 thousand rupees have to be spent
He is cultivating papaya in 10 boxes and green vegetables including okra, prawn and brinjal in 10 boxes. According to him, he has to spend 40 thousand rupees to do gardening in one bigha. But the earning is manifold. Prabhu Sharma says that there is a lot of profit in horticulture farming, but it is a risky business. Sometimes diseases also occur in vegetables and papaya plants. But, these diseases can be avoided by spraying pesticides properly.
Earns more than 2 lakhs
Prabhu Sharma told that he earns Rs 1.80 lakh by selling papaya in a year. Similarly, he earns Rs 40,000 by selling vegetables. That is, they are earning more than Rs 2 lakh by cultivating just one bigha of land. Now other farmers are also taking gardening tips from Prabhu Sharma.
