Gabon is counted among the richest countries in Africa, after Niger now there is a coup here

After Niger, there has been a coup in another African country. This time the victim has been Gabon, which is counted among the richest and youngest countries in Africa. It is believed that the army has carried out this coup to remove the President Omar Bongo Ondimba.

After Niger in Africa, there has now been a coup in Gabon. This is a western and central African country, where the army carried out a coup d'état in Niger style. In the last four years so far many African countries have been made victims of coups. Earlier, talk of coups had come to the fore in Guinea, Sudan, Burkina Faso, Chad and recently in Niger.

Gabon is a country rich in natural resources. It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, bordered by Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and Congo. If compared with any country, in terms of area this country is bigger than the United Kingdom, while smaller than the American state Colorado. Although 88 percent of the area here is forest. The main language here is spoken French.

Among the richest and youngest countries in Africa

Due to mineral and oil reserves and low population, Gabon is counted among the richest countries in Africa. According to the 2021 census, the population here was 2.3 million. The special thing is that this country has the highest rate of urbanization compared to African countries. According to a World Bank report, if we look at every five citizens in Gabon, four of them live in urban areas. More than 60 percent of the country's population lives in the cities of Libreville and Port Gentil. Apart from this, more than 50 percent of the population of Gabon is below 20 years of age. Apart from mineral and oil reserves, this country is famous for biodiversity and national parks.

Dominated by one party

Gabonese Democratic Party has dominated the politics of Gabon. After independence from France in 1960, Lyon MB became its first President. After his death in 1967, Omar Bongo took power and dissolved the Gabonese Democratic Party, founding the Parti Démocratique Gabonaise. Omar Bongo declared it a single national party and remained in power continuously until 2009. After this his son Omar Bongo Ondimba became President. Since then he is holding the post of President.

Coup to remove Omar Bongo from power

Gabon's President Omar Bongo Ondimba has been overthrown by the army only after winning the presidential election once. It is believed that the army has done this coup to remove the President from the post. It is not that the army has done this for the first time in Gabon, earlier in 1964, an attempt was made to oust the then President Lyon MB from power on the basis of a coup, but this effort of the army was not successful at that time. After several months of trying, this coup attempt was suppressed and the opponents were imprisoned.

Most coups happen in Africa

Most incidents of coups occur in African countries in the world, recently there was a coup in Niger, before this coups have also taken place in countries like Guinea, Sudan, Burkina Faso etc. Statistically, there have been a total of 216 coup attempts in African countries including Gabon, out of which 108 times it was successful and the same number of times failed. After this comes Latin America, where so far 146 coup attempts have been made, out of which it was successful 70 times.
