Good news from smartphone makers, 60 thousand will get jobs in 6 months

At present, India has become the second largest mobile handset maker in the world. In such a situation, there is going to be a lot of jobs for the youth in the country. According to TeamLease data, smartphone makers can generate 60,000 direct jobs in the country in the next 6-12 months. Teamlease Services has more than 5,000 vacancies in the mobile manufacturing sector and many more posts are in the pipeline, according to information provided by Karthik Narayan, Chief Executive - Staffing, Teamlease. According to Aditya Narayan Mishra, CEO of Ciel HR Services, another staffing company, there are around 2,000 vacant posts, and it is expected to increase.

1 lakh jobs in one to two years

Apart from these direct jobs, 80,000-100,000 jobs are likely to be generated by smartphone maker companies in the next 12-24 months. The report states that major mobile brands, their suppliers and assembly partners are looking to set up manufacturing in India and thus increase their hiring. Apple smartphone makers like Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron as well as other electronics manufacturing companies like Dixon Technologies and Tata Electronics are also likely to increase their manpower, the ET report said. The report quoted Karthik Narayan of TeamLease as saying that by March 2024, we are expecting 40,000-60,000 direct jobs in phone making across India.

Maximum opportunities in Delhi NCR and Tamil Nadu

He said that there are more than 200 mobile manufacturing units in India. India is the second largest mobile maker in terms of volume, due to which the demand for manpower is increasing. A major portion of these jobs are likely to be filled in Delhi-NCR region and Karnataka as well as Tamil Nadu.

With the government pushing to turn India into a manufacturing hub, India is expected to manufacture around 270-300 million smartphone units this calendar year. According to industry experts, the global consensus towards shifting the manufacturing facility out of China is also giving wings to the idea of ​​making India a manufacturing center for electronic products.

What is PLI scheme?

The Production-Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for large scale electronics manufacturing was announced on April 01, 2020. This scheme provides incentives to makers to promote domestic manufacturing. The government intends to increase investment in mobile phone manufacturing and assembling, testing, marking and packaging etc. The plan has attracted global makers including Samsung, Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron. Among these, Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron are contract makers of Apple smartphones.
