Google Adds extra verification for Gmail: Google has announced that the company will add extra verification steps to some sensitive settings of Gmail to reduce email hijacking. Now you will need verification to edit a filter or add an address in Gmail. The company said in a blogpost that last year we introduced strong security measures for sensitive operations of Google Workspace accounts. Now we are adding this to Gmail's sensitive setting so that whenever someone accesses it, it will verify itself.
According to Blastpot, extra verification will be needed for these things.
First of all, if you create a new filter or edit an existing filter or import a filter, then for this you have to verify yourself. Apart from this, if you add a new address in the forwarding and POP / IMAP settings, then you will also have to verify it. Also, you will need a password to change the settings for IMAP access.
If Google feels any risky action in Gmail account, then the company will ask for verification. If the verification fails, you will get its information through a mail. Extra Verification will be available to all Google Workspace customers and people with a personal Google Account. However, this feature will only be available to users who use Google as their identity provider and support actions taken within Google products. This means that users who sign in with third-party providers or use external email clients will not be able to take advantage of this feature.
