There is hue and cry in the country due to inflation. Most of the things to eat and drink have become expensive. After tomato, now onion has also become expensive. To curb the rising prices of onions, the central government has imposed 40 percent duty on the export of onions. However, due to this decision of the government, there has been a slight drop in the prices. But the rising price of onions has become a big tension for the Nepali government in its neighboring country Nepal. It is being said that due to the imposition of 40 percent import duty, there has been a shortage of onions in Nepal. Due to this, there has been a huge increase in the prices.
According to the Nepali newspaper Kathmandu Post, inflation in Nepal has increased due to imposition of 40 per cent duty on onion exports by India. Onion supply has been affected in Kalimati fruit and vegetable market, Nepal's biggest market. Due to this, there has been a shortage of onions in the market. No onion consignment has arrived in the market since Sunday. If it continues like this in the future, then by Monday the stocks of onions will be empty. In such a situation, onion prices in Nepal can reach the seventh sky, due to which the fear of inflation becoming uncontrolled has increased.
The price has gone up
Information Officer of Kalimati Fruit and Vegetable Market, Binay Shrestha said that imposition of 40 percent import duty on onions in India has affected the arrival of onions in Nepal. If this situation continues in the future, then the price of onion can increase drastically. The scarcity of onions in Nepal can be gauged from the fact that till two weeks back, onions were being sold at Rs.50 per kg. But now the price of one kg of onion has gone up to Rs 100 in Kathmandu. The special thing is that the price of onion is Rs 78 per kg in the wholesale market itself. If the arrival of onions is affected in this way, then the prices may increase further.
Onion is now getting 35 to 40 rupees per kg
At the same time, there is a possibility in India that like tomato, onion will also become expensive from September. The price of one kg of onion will be 60 to 70 rupees. This is the reason why the central government became alert in advance and imposed 40 percent import duty on onions to control inflation. Along with this, she is also selling onions at the cooperative shops at the rate of Rs. 25 per kg.
There is a shortage of onions in the neighboring country Nepal.
Let us tell you that since the last week of June, tomatoes have become very expensive in the country. Tomatoes, which were available at Rs 20 to 30 per kg, had become Rs 250 to 350 per kg by July. In such a situation, Nepal helped India. He assured to export tomatoes to India at a cheap rate. But due to the imposition of import duty by the Government of India, there has been a shortage of onions in the neighboring country Nepal.
