Prime Minister Narendra Modi narrated the story of India's economic growth at the BRICS Business Forum Leaders' Dialogue in Johannesburg on Tuesday. Modi is visiting South Africa for the 15th BRICS Leaders' Summit. The Prime Minister said that there is no doubt that India will become the engine of growth for the world. PM Modi said, while the global economy is in recession, India is emerging as the fastest growing major economy.

Talk on the success of UPI
He talked about his government's record on bringing reforms like the Insolvency Bankruptcy Code and GST to improve ease of doing business and boost investor confidence. He also talked about improving public service delivery and reducing corruption, especially with the use of technology. He said that direct benefit transfers of more than $360 billion have been made to the citizens. The success of UPI payment was also mentioned in PM Modi's statement. Citing the platform's international partnership, he proposed possible collaboration with BRICS countries on UPI.

Meets the President of South Africa and Brazil
Modi also talked about India's startup ecosystem, progress on gender equality and the country's 'Make in India' ambitions. Modi shared the stage with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Brazilian President Lula de Silva. Chinese President Xi Jinping did not attend the business forum event, while Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the BRICS summit virtually.
