The identity of Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar's film OMG, which came in the year 2012, was made by attacking religious ostracism. Despite all the bitterness, the logic shown in the story of the film was very much liked by the audience. Even today it is an all-time popular film. In such a situation, the biggest challenge before Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 was whether this film would also be able to stand the test of evergreen popularity? This question also arose because before the release, the Central Board of Film Certification raised questions about many scenes of this film and later gave it an A certificate. In such a situation, the question of how much the franchise which is known for its unique originality and attitude can be maintained in the second part was also very important.
But when we leave the cinema hall after watching OMG-2 directed by Amit Rai, then all these questions are forgotten. The attack on ostentation is as sharp here as it was in the first part. There is the same conflict between two types of thinking here as was seen in the first part. As the courtroom drama was in the first part, so is it in the second part as well. Simply, the only difference is that in the first part the theme was made of religious ostentation and businessmen in the name of that ostentation while in the second part the ostentation and narrow thinking of sex education has been made a part of the story.
What is the story of the film?
Shiva devotee Kanti Sharan Mudgal (Pankaj Tripathi) runs a shop selling puja material near the Mahakal temple. He is the head of a normal household. Apart from his wife, there are two children-a boy and a girl in the house. It is a small and common man's family, laughing and playing, engrossed in worship lessons. But one day there is an earthquake in the family when it is known about son Vivek that his friend has admitted him to the hospital after he fainted.
Kanti Sharan gets detailed information about her son's bad addiction from the doctor and Vivek's friend in the hospital that he has become a victim of the habit of masturbation. He is very disappointed. Due to this bad addiction, one day he is also expelled from the school, then a mountain of sorrows breaks on the head of Kanti Sharan. Darkness is visible in front of the son's future.
After the son is expelled from the school, the entire family of Kanti Sharan starts getting defamed. It becomes difficult to go anywhere. Due to which he plans to go to another city for a few days with the whole family. The whole family reaches the railway station. Here his son tries to commit suicide in front of the train, but at the same time Akshay Kumar arrives in human disguise as the messenger of Shiva.
After this, Kanti Sharan gets the help of this messenger of Shiva at every step. He inspires him to file a case against all those responsible for spoiling his son's health and future and accept the truth as the truth. Because what is true is beautiful and what is beautiful is Shiva. After this, Kanti goes back to Sharan and files a case against the school management and quacks who give misleading medicines to his son in the name of sexual enhancer.
After this, a long courtroom drama ensues and what happens during this can be known only after watching the entire film. But there is no doubt that the entire film entertains the audience as well as educates.
The duality of sex education and A certificate
The censor board bound by government rules has its own irony. The entire film advocates sex education and runs a kind of campaign to include sex education in school curriculum. In the film's courtroom drama, Kanti Sharan always stresses in his arguments that if sex education had been included in the school, his son would not have been a victim of sexual ostracism and misleading propaganda. Obviously, the film of such a subject targets the teenage class, but by giving an A certificate, the board deprives the same class from watching it. In such a situation, the purpose of the film itself becomes a victim of pomp and irony.
Acting, Direction and Writing
Paresh Rawal was unique in his style as Kanji Lal Mehta in 2012's OMG. But Pankaj Tripathi as Kanti Sharan Mudgal in 2023's OMG-2 has also entertained the audience with his liveliness and simplicity. Paresh Rawal's cheeky arguments about superstition were excellent, while Pankaj Tripathi's retort on sex education was no less commendable. On the other hand, Akshay Kumar, who became Shiva's messenger from Shiva, is as entertaining as Krishna in the form of Bholenath. Akshay Kumar's acting has impressed especially in the scene of Tandav or car driving. Apart from these, actress Yami Gautam is also impressive as lawyer Kamini Maheshwari.
There is a lot of clarity in the direction of Amit Rai. He presents the film like a clear person. Has proved successful in filming its purpose. The story, screenplay and characters of the film have been allowed to get proper expansion. Somewhere no one's flow stops. Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Amit Rai and Rajveer Ahuja have written the cheeky dialogues of the film. When there is laughter in the hall, applause also rings. Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi is also the creative producer of this film, in such a situation, the cultural and historical context of the film's story has emerged strongly.
Why watch this movie?
The songs and music of the film have already created a buzz, so what to say about it, but one thing is certain that many important things have been said about sex education in the story of this film, about which the government and the system should be aware. Every section of the audience should watch this film. The film raises the question that first in the world, sex education started on the land of India, then why people do not want to discuss that topic today. The film raises the question that the British took Kamashastra from us, but today when schools are run through English medium in the country, then why sex education is not given to the teenagers there?
