Preparations for Independence Day complete, PM Modi will lead the celebrations from Red Fort Independence Day 2023

Independence Day 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the country in the 77th Independence Day celebrations on August 15 from the historic Red Fort in Delhi.

Independence Day 2023: New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the nation in the 77th Independence Day celebrations on August 15 from the historic Red Fort in Delhi. The Defense Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that 1,800 people from different walks of life along with their spouses have been invited as "special guests" from across the country to be part of the celebrations at the Red Fort. The Prime Minister will unfurl the National Flag and address the nation from the ramparts of this historic monument.

This year's Independence Day will mark the end of 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations and the country will enter the 'Amrit Kaal' with renewed enthusiasm to realize the dream of making India a developed country by 2047, the statement said. The 'Amrit Mahotsav of Independence' was inaugurated by the Prime Minister on March 12, 2021 from the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

The ministry informed that a large number of guests have been invited this year as compared to last year. About 1,800 people have been invited along with their spouses as special guests. This initiative has been taken in line with the 'Jan Bhagidari' approach of the government.

The distinguished guests included over 400 sarpanches from over 660 'vibrant villages', the statement said; 250 people associated with the Farmer Producer Organization Scheme; 50-50 participants of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana; There are 50 Shram Yogis (construction workers) associated with the Central Vista project including the new Parliament House.

Apart from this, khadi workers, construction of border roads, people associated with Amrit Sarovar and Har Ghar Jal Yojana, as well as primary school teachers, nurses and fishermen are also involved, it said. Some of these distinguished guests are scheduled to visit the National War Memorial and call on Shri Ajay Bhatt, Minister of State for Defence, during their stay in Delhi.

Seventy-five couples from each state/UT have also been invited in their traditional attire to witness the ceremony at the Red Fort, the statement said.

The ministry said that including National War Memorial, India Gate, Vijay Chowk, New Delhi Railway Station, Pragati Maidan, Raj Ghat, Jama Masjid Metro Station, Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, Delhi Gate Metro Station, ITO Metro Gate, Naubat Khana and Sheesh Ganj Gurudwara 'Selfie points' dedicated to various schemes and initiatives of the government have been made at 12 places.

As part of the celebrations, an online selfie contest will be organized by the Ministry of Defense on the MyGov portal from August 15-20, the statement said. All official invitations have been sent online through the invitation portal. 17,000 e-invitation cards have been issued through this portal.

The ministry said that on reaching the Red Fort, the Prime Minister will be received by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt and Defense Secretary Giridhar Aramane.

Thereafter, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Delhi Area Lt Gen Dheeraj Seth will escort the prime minister to the saluting venue, the statement said. There a joint Inter-Services and Delhi Police guard will salute the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister's 'Guard of Honour' contingent will comprise one officer and 25 personnel each from the Army, Air Force and Delhi Police and one officer and 24 personnel from the Navy, the statement said. The Indian Army is in the role of coordinating service for this year. Major Vikas Sangwan will command the 'Guard of Honour'.

The ministry said that after the 'guard of honour', the Prime Minister will proceed to the ramparts of the Red Fort, where he will be received by the Defense Minister, Minister of State for Defence, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Manoj Pandey, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chowdhary.

The statement said the GOC of Delhi region will escort the prime minister to the platform on the ramparts for unfurling the national flag. After the flag is hoisted, the 'National Salute' will be given to the tricolor. The Army Band, comprising one JCO and 20 other military personnel, will play the National Anthem during the unfurling of the National Flag and rendering of the 'National Salute'. The band will be conducted by Naib Subedar Jatinder Singh.

The ministry said Major Nikita Nair and Major Jasmine Kaur will assist the Prime Minister in unfurling the national flag. The event will be coordinated by the gallant gunners of the elite 8711 Field Battery (ceremonial), accompanied by a 21-gun salute. Lieutenant Colonel Vikas Kumar will command the Ceremonial Battery and Naib Subedar (AIG) Anoop Singh will be the Gun Position Officer.

As soon as the National Flag is unfurled by the Prime Minister, two Advanced Light Helicopters Mark-III Dhruv of the Indian Air Force in side row configuration will shower flowers at the venue. After this, the Prime Minister will address the nation.

At the conclusion of the Prime Minister's address, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets will sing the national anthem, according to the statement. 1,10 Boys and Girls NCC Cadets (Army, Navy and Air Force) from various schools across the country will participate. Seats have been placed on the Gyanpath, on which the cadets will sit in official white dress.
