President approves 76 gallantry awards, including 4 Kirti and 11 Shaurya Chakras


New Delhi:
 On the occasion of 77th Independence Day, President Draupadi Murmu has approved 76 gallantry awards. These awards include four Kirti Chakras (posthumously), 11 Shaurya Chakras including five posthumously, two Sena Medals (gallantry), 52 Sena Medals (gallantry), 3 Navy Medals (gallantry) and four Vayu Sena Medals (gallantry). Along with this, the President has also approved 30 Mention-in-Despatches for the Army. Army Dog Madhu (posthumously) and an Air Force personnel have been awarded this gallantry medal for their contribution in various military operations.

The Kirti Chakra and the Shaurya Chakra are the second and third highest peacetime gallantry awards in India after the Ashoka Chakra. In a statement, the Defense Ministry said, “President Draupadi Murmu has approved 76 gallantry awards for personnel of the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces on the eve of Independence Day 2023. These include four Kirti Chakras (posthumously), 11 Shaurya Chakras including five posthumously, two Sena Medals (gallantry), 52 Sena Medals (gallantry), 3 Navy Medals (gallantry) and four Vayu Sena Medals (gallantry). 

Many brave soldiers got respect 

The posthumous Kirti Chakra awardees include Dilip Kumar Das, Raj Kumar Yadav, Bablu Rabha and Sambha Roy, the statement said. All of them were personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force. The five personnel to receive the Shaurya Chakra (posthumously) include Army Aviation Squadron Major Vikas Bhambhu and Major Mustafa Bohra; Havaldar Vivek Singh Tomar of Rajputana Rifles and Rifleman Kulbhushan Manta of Rashtriya Rifles have also been awarded this award.
