Rajiv Gandhi, who served as the 7th Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989, was born on 20 August 1944. Today is his 79th birth anniversary. On this occasion, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attended a prayer meeting organized on the banks of Pangong Lake and paid tribute to his father.

Rahul Gandhi's visit to Ladakh

Rahul Gandhi had reached Leh on Thursday to begin his two-day visit to the Union Territory, which he later extended till August 25. This is Rahul Gandhi's first visit to Ladakh since Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two union territories, Ladakh and J&K, following the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35(A) on August 5, 2019. He interacted with the youth in Leh on Friday.

According to party sources, Rahul Gandhi will also watch a football match in Leh. Apart from this, sources said that he will also participate in the meeting of the 30-member Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC)-Kargil elections on August 25.

The Congress and the National Conference have formed a pre-poll alliance against the Bharatiya Janata Party for the Kargil Council elections to be held on 10 September.

Rahul Gandhi spoke to the media

There are many complaints of people in Ladakh. People are not happy with the status given to them. The people here want a representation. There is a problem of unemployment here. Everyone is saying that there is a lot of unemployment and inflation is also increasing. People are saying that the state should not be run by the bureaucracy but the state should be run by the voice of the people.
