On Rakshabandhan, sisters wish for the protection of their brothers and brothers give them gifts. A sister has donated her liver to her brother to save his life. Buta Singh had last stage liver disease. There was no other option but a transplant to save his life. In such a situation, the sister came forward to help her brother and donated her liver. Buta Singh is a resident of Punjab. He had severe liver disease and had also developed jaundice. Water was accumulating in the stomach and there was infection in the kidney as well. Due to this the life of the patient was in danger. He was battling this disease for the last several years and due to liver damage, the body was not functioning properly.

Patient Buta Singh was admitted to Maringo Asia Hospital in critical condition. Where the investigation revealed that liver transplant is necessary to save the patient's life. Donor was needed for this. First Buta Singh's wife was asked to donate liver, but she was not medically fit. The patient's condition was continuously deteriorating. Seeing his poor condition, sister Sharanjeet Kaur (45 years) came forward to save her brother's life. She was also fit for medical examination and a part of her liver was transplanted to Buta Singh.

Transplant took 10 hours

Dr. Puneet Singla, Director and HOD of Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery at Maringo Asia Hospitals, told that the patient's sister has given a new life to her brother while fulfilling her duty. This surgery for transplant took about 10 hours. After this the patient made a rapid recovery. After the surgery, both the donor and the patient are doing well. Now he can slowly lead a normal life.

Liver comes back to its shape again

Dr. Puneet said that the liver is the only part of the human body that regenerates over time, and returns to its previous size. Liver transplant at the right time saves the patient's life. The donor is discharged from the hospital in a very short time.

Rising cases

Dr. Puneet said that the cases of liver diseases are increasing in India. This is happening due to poor lifestyle. When liver disease reaches the last stage, then a transplant has to be done.
