Former Sri Lankan cricketer Sachithra Senanayake has been banned from traveling abroad by the Colombo Magistrate's Court. Senanayake is facing allegations of match-fixing after having contact with two cricketers in the Lanka Premier League. Senanayake has been accused of trying to fix games in the 2020 Lanka Premier League.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court ordered the Immigration and Emigration Controller to ban Senanayake from studying abroad for a period of three months. The court order was obtained by the Attorney General's Department. The court was told that the Special Investigation Unit of the Sports Ministry had directed the Attorney General's Department to frame criminal charges against the former off-spinner.
Talking about off-spinner Senanayake's ODI career, he has played 49 matches and managed to get 53 wickets at an average of 35.36. During this, his best bowling performance has been taking 4 wickets for 13 runs. Sachitra Senanayake has also played 24 T20 Internationals for Sri Lanka, in which he has taken 25 wickets at an economy rate of 6.78. Senanayake's best bowling performance in T20 Internationals is 4/46.
The former Sri Lankan off-spinner has also played a Test match but has not been able to take any wickets in that. In this only Test match, he bowled 23 overs and scored 96 runs at an economy rate of 4.17. This was the only Test match he played against Pakistan in December 2013. Senanayake has also played in the IPL. He has taken 9 wickets in 8 matches played in IPL with the help of an economy rate of 6.53. During this, his best bowling performance has been to get 2 wickets for 26 runs.
