Tomato Prices: An exercise to control the fire in prices, so many tons of cheap tomatoes were sold in a day

Tomato Price: The government is constantly making efforts to bring down the price of tomatoes. Only on Saturday, 36.5 tonnes of tomatoes have been sold through NCCF centers in Delhi.

According to the report published in Live Mint, this week the National Cooperative Federation of India (NCCF) has sold 36.5 tonnes of tomatoes in Delhi within just one day. This figure is of Saturday. At the same time, NCCF has set a target of selling 60 tonnes of tomatoes in the entire weekend. In this, 10 tonnes of tomatoes have been brought from Nepal.

Government has been selling cheap tomatoes for a long time

Significantly, within the last two to three months, the price of tomato has increased by up to 1400 percent in the country. In such a situation, tomatoes have been sold in different cities of the country at retail price ranging from Rs 140 to Rs 400 per kg. In such a situation, to curb the rising prices of tomatoes, from July 14, 2023, through its agencies like NCCF, NAFED, the government is selling tomatoes at the rate of 70 to 90 rupees per kg in many states including Delhi-NCR.

Selling through mobile van

According to the report published in Mint, after the intervention of the government, the prices of tomatoes are falling in the retail market. According to the information given by the government, on Saturday only, the government has sold tomatoes through a total of 85 NCCF vans in Delhi NCR area. Out of this, 15 vans have also made rounds of many locations of Noida. Apart from this, cheap tomatoes are being sold in many areas of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh through NAFED and NCCF.

Prices decreased in these cities

According to Mint's report, the government has informed that the wholesale price of tomatoes in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, is between Rs 70 and Rs 80 per kg. At the same time, it is being sold in retail between 80 to 100 rupees. Whereas in Kanpur, the wholesale price is between Rs 50 to 60 per kg and the retail price is between Rs 80 to 100 per kg. On the other hand, if we talk about Varanasi, here it is being sold in wholesale between Rs 70 to 80 and in retail between Rs 90 to 100. Whereas in Jaipur, tomatoes are being sold at Rs 65 to 70 per kg in the wholesale market and at Rs 90 to 100 per kg in retail. At the same time, in the capital Delhi, it is being sold for 70 to 80 rupees in the wholesale market and 80 to 120 rupees per kg in the retail market.
