According to media reports, the White House has confirmed that on Thursday four prisoners – Siamak Namazi, Imad Shargi, Morad Tahbaz and a fourth American citizen – have been shifted from the infamous Evin prison to house arrest. The person could not be identified. The fifth American citizen was also not identified but he is already under house arrest. All these American citizens taken hostage are of Iranian origin and dual citizenship is not acceptable in Iran.

6-7 billion dollars were stranded in Iran

Iran accepted the transfer of prisoners. For this, it has been agreed to release 6-7 billion dollars of Iran trapped due to sanctions. It has been said from the US side that when the prisoners are released, money will be sent to Iran through Qatar. At the moment it is not clear how long this whole process will take. It is being told that the release of the prisoners can be done till next month and then accordingly the money will be returned to Iran. At present, he has been shifted from the jails of Iran to house arrest.

Jared Genser, a US-based lawyer representing one of the prisoners, said the five could be housed in a hotel with heavy security. Iran's permanent member of the United Nations said in a statement that Iran and the US have agreed to release and measure five prisoners as part of a humanitarian cooperation agreement with third-party mediation.

US-Iran enmity for 43 years

There have been no formal diplomatic relations between the US and Iran since 1980, and all negotiations are conducted under the auspices of a third party. The recent meetings were hosted by Oman and Qatar. Apart from these, United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Switzerland also organized meetings. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said Americans "should be allowed to leave Iran as soon as possible and be reunited with their loved ones."
