Geetika is considered to be a very sharp officer. He has spent most of his career in China. Presently he is posted in Indo Pacific Division.
The appointment of IFS Geetika Srivastava as the Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan has been confirmed by the Pakistani newspaper The News itself. It has been told that the appointment of Geetika Srivastava, the first woman in-charge of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, has been decided. The special thing is that after a long gap of four years, India will have a full-time High Commissioner in Pakistan.
Who is Geetika Srivastava
Geetika Srivastava is a 2005 batch IFS officer, she is originally from Uttar Pradesh. He has spent most of his career in China. Prior to this, she has also worked as Regional Passport Officer in Kolkata. He has also worked as Director in the IOR Division of the Ministry of External Affairs. He is currently posted as Joint Secretary in the Indian Pacific Division of the Ministry of External Affairs.
Long experience of diplomacy
Geetika Srivastava has spent most of her career in the Indian High Commission in China. She has been posted here in different positions. Currently Geetika is in the Indo Pacific Division which looks after India's multilateral diplomacy with other countries. It is believed that during the deployment in Pakistan, the experience of China and Indo Pacific Division will be useful for Geetika.
There is no High Commissioner in Pakistan for four years
There is no full-time High Commissioner of India in Pakistan for the last four years. The last High Commissioner of India in Islamabad was Ajay Bisarita, when India removed Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. At that time, furious Pakistan had ended diplomatic relations with India. The then PM Imran Khan had warned Bisaria to leave Pakistan. After this the Deputy High Commissioner was carrying out this responsibility. It also had an impact on the diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan.
Saad Waraich may be in charge of Pak High Commission
According to the Pak media, Saad Waraich may be given the responsibility as the in-charge of Pakistan's High Commission in India. He will replace Ejaz Khan, in-charge of the Pakistan High Commission in India. At present, Ejaz Khan is carrying out this responsibility. Recently, on Pakistan's Independence Day, he said in New Delhi that a solution to the Kashmir dispute is necessary for lasting peace in South Asia.
