Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi has appointed Lt. Gen. Kanwal Jit Singh Dhillon (Retd.) as the Chairman of the Board of Governors. He has been appointed by President Draupadi Murmu for three years. Dhillon will replace Professor Prem Vrat, the founder director of IIT Roorkee. Dhillon has also received many awards while in the army.
Dhillon retired from the Defense Services in January, 2022. He served as the DG Defense Intelligence Agency and Deputy Chief of the Integrated Defense Staff under the Chief of Defense Staff, responsible for international military cooperation and strategic intelligence. Lieutenant General (Retd) Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon is also known as 'Tiny Dhillon'. His tenure in IID Mandi has started from 25 August 2023 for three years.
Role played in Balakot air strike
Dhillon commanded 15 Corps during important events like Pulwama IED blast, Balakot Air Strike. He also served as the DG Defense Intelligence Agency and Deputy Chief of the Integrated Defense Staff under the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), focusing on international military cooperation and strategic intelligence gathering.
Got many medals
During his impressive service of 39 years in the army, he has also received several medals, including Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal. Dhillon launched a book “Kitne Ghazi Aaye, Kitne Ghazi Gaye, My Life Story” in February this year, which was widely appreciated.
What is the ranking of IIT Mandi?
Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi has secured 73rd rank out of 200 Indian Institutes in the NIRF ranking released this year. At the same time, the institute was given 33rd rank in the engineering program.
