Nitish Rana, who was the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2023 season, is in the headlines. Actually, the Delhi state team has removed Nitish Rana from the captaincy and made Yash Dhull the captain, after which Rana has decided to leave Delhi cricket. Not just Rana, Dhruv Shorey, the highest run-scorer for Delhi in the last Ranji Trophy season, has also sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA).
This means that both these players can play Ranji Trophy for some other state in the upcoming Ranji season. DDCA joint secretary Rajan Manchanda confirmed the news on Friday. Along with this, Manchanda also said that after contacting both these cricketers, it would be found out why they want to take such a step.
Speaking on the matter, the Joint Secretary said, 'DDCA will definitely request them to stay as both are senior players and have contributed a lot to Delhi cricket. But the final decision will be theirs only. If he does not agree to stay, we will definitely let him go.
However, it will be interesting to see whether Rana and Shorey stick to the request or not. In the last Ranaji season, Delhi could not qualify for the knockouts despite Shourie scoring 859 runs. He was the fourth highest run scorer behind Mayank Agarwal (990), Arpit Vasavada (907) and Anushtup Majumdar (867). Asked whether their grievances would be addressed, the secretary said how can DDCA talk about selection matters. It completely depends on the selection committee.
