Case study of a cancer suffering woman from Mumbai

In the Lancet study, the case of a cancer-stricken woman from Mumbai, known as the financial capital of India, was highlighted. A woman living in Mumbai became an example of the country's gender inequality in cancer care. The woman lived in Nala Sopara and was suffering from headache for a long time but she was not aware of the symptoms of cancer. Besides, her drug addict husband also never expressed concern about her deteriorating health. When she complained of headache, her husband did not help her. Even the local doctor, instead of examining it properly, declared it to be an eye problem. Then her father-in-law, who is a salesman, provided her with proper medical tests and she was diagnosed with cancer.

Gender inequality is a major reason in healthcare matters

Gender inequality is also a major reason for the increasing cases of death of women due to cancer in India. The Lancet study states that women themselves do not worry about their health, their health is not their priority and they often ignore their deteriorating health. Apart from this, domestic violence and poverty are the reasons due to which women are not able to think about the treatment of diseases like cancer.
