'800 The Film' is an interesting story of Sri Lanka's famous spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan. In this film, Slumdog Millionaire fame actor Madhur Mittal will be seen playing the role of Muraleedharan. The film based on Muralitharan's cricket career, his struggles and 800 wickets has been directed by director Sripathi. The trailer of the film was launched by Sachin Tendulkar and Jayasuriya. This film is going to be released pan India in Hindi as well as Tamil and Telugu languages.
During the trailer launch, Muttiah Muralitharan told that director MS Sripathi convinced him a lot to give him the rights of the story of this film, because Muttiah did not want a film to be made on his life. But after a lot of thinking, he felt that through this film he could show Sri Lanka as a country that has emerged as a 'cricket nation'. This is the reason why this bowler said yes to the film.

During the trailer launch of the film, the makers have claimed that the entire story is based on true events, for which MS Sripati has worked hard. He stayed in Colombo for almost 2 years for the research of this film and during this time he also met all the friends of Muraleedharan . He went to almost every place Murlidhar used to go. He has shown many such things in the film, about which Muraleedharan himself is also unaware.
