Mukesh Ambani has done shopping worth crores. Reliance Industries' Viacom 18 Media Private Limited company has bought BCCI's TV and digital media rights for Rs 5683 crore. Viacom18 has won these rights by defeating Sony Sports Network and Disney Star in BCCI's e-auction for the next five years. Viacom has signed a contract with BCCI for 5 years i.e. till 2028. There are 88 international matches in this deal, for which Viacom18 will pay Rs 67.75 crore to BCCI for each match. Let us tell you, this amount is 12.91% more than Disney Star's Rs 60 crore in 2018-23.
Disney Plus and Sony Sports got challenged
Viacom-18 has given a tough challenge to Disney Plus and Sony Sports by getting this deal. BCCI had conducted e-auction of IPL media rights last year as well, whereas in 2018 offline auctions were held for BCCI rights.
Rights sold in 2 packages
BCCI conducted e-auction for media rights. Under this, media rights were sold in two packages. Of these, Package-A was for TV, while Package-B was for digital and world broadcasting rights. The broadcast cycle will start from September 2023 to March 2028. There will be around 88 international matches during this period. The Indian cricket team will play 88 matches in the cycle from 2023 to 2028. Of these, there will be 21 matches against Australia and 18 against England.
BCCI Chief congratulated
BCCI Secretary Jai Shah wrote on Twitter: "Congratulations to Viacom18 for buying the TV and digital rights of BCCI for the next five years. Indian cricket will continue to grow on both platforms. After IPL and WPL rights, we have partnered with BCCI media rights.
