Asia Cup 2023: Gill's century went in vain, Bangladesh defeated India by 6 runs in a thrilling match

 


Bangladesh defeated India by 6 runs in the sixth match of Super 4 in Asia Cup. For India, Shubman Gill played a century innings which went in vain. On behalf of Bangladesh, captain Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman performed brilliantly. Bangladesh departed from the tournament with the win. India will face Sri Lanka in the final on Sunday. 

Batting first, Bangladesh scored 265 runs losing 8 wickets in 50 overs. Captain Shakib Al Hasan scored the maximum 80 (85) runs for the team. In this innings he hit 6 fours and 3 sixes. Apart from him, Tauheed Hridoy played a half-century inning of 54 runs in 81 balls with the help of 5 fours and 2 sixes. Both of them played a century partnership of 101(115) runs. In the end, Nasum Ahmed made important contribution of 44(45) and Mahedi Hasan made 29(23)* runs. Shardul Thakur took maximum 3 wickets for India. Experienced Mohammed Shami took 2 wickets. Prasidh Krishna, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel got one wicket each.  

Chasing the target, the Indian team was all out at 259 in 49.5 overs. For India, the maximum runs came from the bat of opener Shubman Gill. Gill scored a century of 121 runs in 133 balls with the help of 8 fours and 5 sixes. This is his 5th century in ODI which came in 117 balls. Whereas Akshar Patel played an inning of 42 runs in 34 balls with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes. 

Mustafizur Rahman took maximum 3 wickets for Bangladesh. 2-2 successes were achieved by Tanzeem Hasan Saqib and Mehdi Hasan. Shakib Al Hasan and Mehdi Hasan Miraj got one wicket each. Mustafizur turned the match in favor of Bangladesh by dismissing Shardul and Akshar in the 49th over.
