Can checking blood pressure while lying down really give accurate readings? Experts are considering new study

Blood Pressure Check: Till now it was said that the correct condition can be known by taking blood pressure reading while sitting, but in a recent study something new has been said about it.

Blood Pressure Reading:  When people suffer from high or low blood pressure, they are often instructed to take BP readings on several occasions. Till now, to take blood pressure readings, health experts used to advise sitting instead of lying down. It is said that this makes BP readings quite accurate. But in a recent study conducted in America, it has been said that instead of taking blood pressure reading while sitting, if the reading is taken lying down, then the chances of getting a more accurate reading increases. Although no official claim has been made regarding this study, doctors are considering this regard. Even before this, such studies have been done many times to find out in which position the BP reading should be taken by the patient.

 American Heart Association conducted study

Recently, in this study of American Heart Association, it has been said that if BP reading is taken while lying down instead of sitting or any other posture, then the chances of getting better and accurate reading can increase. Although this research is in its initial stage, but experts are discussing it. It has been said in this study that taking BP reading while lying down makes it much easier to predict stroke, heart related serious disease and even possible death and this can reduce the number of heart related deaths.

Revealed by taking readings in different groups

About 12 thousand people were included in this study. All these people had BP problems. Blood pressure readings of all the patients were taken in both lying and sitting positions. The age of the people involved in the study was between 25 to 55 years and everyone was divided into four groups. These groups were made up of patients with normal, high and low BP. After this, each group was asked to give readings in different positions. After taking readings in this way, it was found that accurate readings of patients with high and low BP were obtained only while lying down. Among such people, the risk of stroke was seen in 62 percent people while the risk of heart coronary disease was found in 72 percent people.
