Teej has great importance in Hindu religion. By the way, the festival of Teej is celebrated three times every year, including Kajari Teej, Hartalika Teej and Hariyali Teej. But there is a special importance of the fast of Kajari Teej, which is kept for the long life and good health of the husband. Kajri Teej is also known as Saturi Teej. On this day married women keep a fast with the wish of long life of their husband and worship Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. However, unmarried girls also observe this fast along with married women.

According to the scriptures, the fast of Kajri Teej is as special for unmarried girls as it is for married women. Unmarried girls observe this fast to get a suitable, handsome and desired groom. Those girls who are not able to get married due to some reason or their marriage is getting delayed, then by observing this fast they get married soon. The fast of Kajri Teej is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. On this day, by worshiping Gauri Shankar with true heart, every wish is fulfilled.

Importance of Kajri Teej fast

It is believed that to get Lord Shiva as her husband, Mother Parvati was the first to fast on Kajari Teej. Since then, on fasting of Kajari Teej, unmarried girls get the boon of getting the desired groom and all their wishes are fulfilled. The obstacles coming in the marriage of girls also go away. On the other hand, married women keep a waterless fast on Kajri Teej to get unbroken good fortune. After keeping Nirjala fast, the married women offer ardhya to the moon and only after that they break the fast. Every year Kajari Teej is celebrated on Tritiya Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month. This year, this date has started on September 1 at 11.50 am and will continue till 08.49 pm the next day. In such a situation, Kajri Teej will be celebrated on 2 September 2023 according to the rising date.

This is how unmarried girls keep this fast

To observe the fast of Kajri Teej, unmarried girls should wake up early in the morning, take bath and wear clean clothes.

After taking bath, take a pledge to observe Nirjala fast while meditating on Goddess Parvati.

After taking bath, go to the temple and worship Shiva-Parvati and perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva.

On the day of Kajri Teej, Neem tree is worshiped in the form of Mother Parvati. Therefore, offer water to Neemdi Mata and worship her with Roli and rice.

Like married women, unmarried girls do not need to do 16 adornments. Also worship Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati without makeup.

Unmarried girls should light lamps in front of Shiva and Parvati. Instead of using oil in the lamp, use ghee. After that offer incense, incense sticks, dhatura, flowers and prasad etc.

On the day of Kajri Teej, vermillion should be offered especially to Goddess Parvati in the puja and wedding material should be offered. Recite Shiva Purana by chanting mantras of Lord Shiva.

Unmarried girls should worship with full rituals and meditate on Mahadev with folded hands.

On the day of Kajri Teej, it is customary to prepare dishes like Kheer, Puri, Almond Halwa, Dal Bati Churma, Ghevar, Gujiya, Kaju Katli, Halwa etc.

After observing Nirjala fast on this day, the fast is broken by eating food only after the moon rises.
