Many women are facing the problem of lump in the uterus. Earlier this problem used to occur after the age of 50, but now even women below 40 are having lumps in the uterus. Lumps in the uterus are called fibroids. The exact reasons why this lump occurs in the uterus have not been known. However, this can happen due to changes in hormones. Lumps form in and around the uterus of women. This lump can be as small as a pea or as big as a cricket ball. In women in whom lumps form, its symptoms start appearing in the beginning itself. These include symptoms like frequent urination, pain in the lower abdomen, bleeding outside periods and periods lasting more than seven days. If these are identified on time then this problem can be easily treated.
If there is a lump in the uterus, some people fear that it might turn into cancer. But can these lumps also take the form of cancer? Let us know what the doctors have to say about this.
Can a uterine lump become cancer?
Dr. Manju Goyal, gynecologist at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, Delhi, says that due to some disturbance in hormones, women face the problem of lump in the uterus. This is becoming a common disease among women today. Women who suffer from PCOD may also develop a lump in their uterus.
As far as these lumps becoming cancerous is concerned, this happens only in one or two cases out of 10 to 15 thousand cases. In women who produce excess estrogen and also have lumps in the uterus, there is a risk of these lumps becoming cancer. However, such cases are rarely seen. Therefore, in cases of uterine lump, one should not panic considering it to be a risk of cancer.
Risk for pregnancy
Dr. Chanchal Sharma, a gynecologist in Delhi, says that if a woman has a lump in her uterus and she is pregnant, then it can harm the unborn child. The size of this lump can also increase with pregnancy. In such a situation, it is important to get all tests related to the uterus done during pregnancy. Because if this lump starts growing around the cervix then there may be difficulty in normal delivery.
How to get treatment
Lumps in the uterus are treated through medicines and surgery. It depends on the age of the woman and the size of the lump. If the lump is small then it can be treated with antihormonal agents and pain-reducing medicines, but if the lump is large and the woman's condition is worsening then the doctor may decide to perform surgery.
