Anthony Rota, Speaker of the House of Commons, the lower house of the Canadian Parliament, resigned from his post on Tuesday. Opposition parties had demanded Rota's resignation
Rota had said that Hunka was a war hero who fought on behalf of the 1st Ukrainian Division. Later it was revealed that this division had fought under the command of the Nazis. After this, Rota resigned from his post on Tuesday after meeting the party leaders of the House of Commons. Earlier, all the main opposition parties had demanded Rota's resignation.
Rota apologized for his mistake
After the controversy, Speaker Rota had apologized for his mistake. He had said that he was not aware that he was a Nazi soldier. I am regretting my decision.
