Dental health: Recently researchers from many countries jointly conducted a study. It was found that people whose teeth are in good condition have a much lower risk of developing head and neck cancer. Especially in people who visit the dentist regularly, symptoms of cancer can be identified early in their body. This also allows their treatment to be done quickly and effectively. This study conducted by the International Head and Neck Cancer Epidemiology (INHANCE) Consortium has been published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
Know what the research says:
In this study, data of head and neck cancer patients was collected. In this, information was collected about bleeding gums, frequency of brushing teeth, use of mouthwash and visiting the dentist in the last 10 years. This study found that patients who had good dental health and visited the dentist regularly remained healthy longer even after having cancer. People who visited the dentist more than 5 times within 10 years had an increased chance of survival. Those who never consulted a doctor and were suddenly diagnosed with cancer had less chances of survival. This difference was most seen in cancers of the back of the throat such as tonsil and palate cancer. It was found that those who had good teeth and more than 20 original teeth also had higher chances of survival.
Why are cancer cases increasing?
In recent years, people are being saved from head and neck cancer due to treatment. But still it is the 6th most common cancer worldwide. About 67,000 new cases are reported every year in America. The biggest reason for this is tobacco consumption. Drinking alcohol and HPV virus also increase its risk. This research shows that cancer can be avoided by paying attention to the cleanliness of teeth and mouth.
