Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Machine Learning and Cyber Security and Computer Science have become the first choice of students. At the same time, the demand for branches like mechanical and civil engineering is now declining. This time a total of more than 1.17 lakh students have taken admission in engineering colleges of Maharashtra, which is more than last year.
Out of total 49,586 seats for computer engineering courses including new age technologies like AI, ML and IoT, 44,517 seats have been filled. Whereas in super specialized courses offering AI-ML and AI-Data Science, 8,514 out of total 9,642 seats have been filled at the end of the admission session this year.
50% seats vacant in mechanical engineering
According to the data released by Maharashtra CET Cell, there are a total of 23,193 seats in mechanical engineering courses, out of which only 12,065 could be filled. Whereas in Mechanical Engineering, about 50 percent seats are vacant. In civil engineering also, more than 50 percent seats are vacant this year. There were 17,268 seats for admission in civil engineering this year, but admissions have been done on only 7103 seats. Very few admissions were also recorded in allied courses of civil engineering such as civil and environmental engineering, civil and infrastructural engineering, civil engineering and planning. Out of total 341 seats, only 104 seats were filled.
Seats are vacant in these branches also
In Electronics and Telecommunication, 15,229 out of total 18,806 seats were filled, while in Information Technology (IT) 11,565 students took admission out of total 12,359 seats. Whereas in Electrical Engineering, out of total 11,760 seats, admissions were done for 7,152 seats.
More than 25% seats could not be filled
This time overall, out of the total 1,58,585 seats available under various engineering branches, admission has been done on 1,17,585. Whereas this is much more than only 1,09,499 admissions in the academic year 2022-23. This academic year, more than 25 percent seats in engineering courses could not be filled.
