A 14 year old child died due to rabies in Ghaziabad. This child was bitten by a dog one and a half months ago, but the child did not give this information to anyone. Because of this, the infection of rabies continued to spread in his body. Due to this, his condition started deteriorating gradually. Saliva was coming from the mouth and he was afraid of water. His relatives took him to the hospital in critical condition. Investigation revealed that rabies infection had spread throughout the child's body. In such a situation, his life could not be saved and he died. The incidents of dog bites are also increasing in the last few months. But some people do not take it seriously.
In such a situation, it is important for you to know what should be done first if a dog bites and within how many hours it is necessary to get treatment. We have talked to experts to get information on this matter.
There is no cure for rabies
In a conversation with Dr. NR Rawat at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner, tells that rabies is an infection that has no cure. This infection spreads to humans through animal bites. The animal's saliva contains the virus of rabies which spreads to the human body through the wound made after the bite. After spreading in different parts of the body, the virus of rabies finally goes to the brain. In this situation it is difficult to save the life of the patient.
Dr. Rawat explains that the time for the symptoms of this disease to appear in people can be different. In some, symptoms are visible within two months, while in some it may take several years. It depends on the immunity of the person. But if the dog has bitten and the vaccine is not taken, then the virus of rabies will definitely spread in the body, which later becomes the cause of death. In such a situation, people are advised to get rabies vaccine.
get injected within 24 hours
This disease can be prevented only through rabies injection. If a person is bitten by a dog or any other animal, he must go to the hospital within 24 hours and get rabies vaccine. If it is delayed longer than this, then it is possible that the effect of the medicine may not be there later.
These are the symptoms of rabies
Headache
sore throat
burning sensation where it was bitten
drooling
afraid of water
have seizures
Don't fall prey to home remedies
Dr. Rawat says that even today in many areas, people do not take rabies vaccine after being bitten by a dog or monkey, but instead fall into the trap of home remedies. This happens a lot in rural areas. Things like red chili, cow dung are applied on the iron wound. Avoid doing this. Only anti-rabies vaccine can protect against rabies. It requires five injections which are given absolutely free in all the government hospitals of the country.
