How to understand that it is dengue?

Dengue fever is a serious disease which is quite different from common fever. Although some symptoms of both may be similar, but in dengue the fever is more severe and there is extreme pain in the body. Rashes and bleeding can also occur in dengue which do not occur in common fever. Therefore, if fever persists for more than 2-3 days, consult a doctor and get tested for dengue. Timely diagnosis and treatment of dengue can prevent its serious consequences.

When should dengue test be done?

If a sudden fever occurs that is higher than 103 degrees F and lasts for 2-7 days. If symptoms like headache, back pain, vomiting and diarrhea persist for 3-4 days. If there are red rashes or bleeding on the body. If these symptoms persist, dengue test should be done immediately.

Dengue is spread by the bite of which type of mosquitoes. There

are 4 types of dengue virus - DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, DENV-4. This virus grows in the body of the female Aedes mosquito. When an infected female mosquito bites a person, the virus enters that person through its saliva. In this way the mosquito becomes the carrier of dengue virus and spreads this disease. Therefore, protection from mosquitoes is very important to avoid dengue.
