The festival of Hartalika Teej is considered very special in Hindu religion. 
Although the festival of Teej is celebrated three times in a year, but Hartalika Teej has special significance among them. Among the three Teejs, the fast of Hartalika Teej is considered to be the most difficult in which women keep fast without water for 24 hours. Along with observing fast, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati are worshiped on this day. By observing the fast of Hartalika Teej, women get the blessings of unbroken good fortune and happiness and prosperity comes to the house. Along with married women, unmarried girls observe the fast of Hartalika Teej so that they too get a suitable groom.

Hartalika Teej is celebrated every year on the third date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. This year this date falls on two days, hence there is a lot of confusion regarding keeping the fast. Tritiya Tithi is starting on 17th September at 11:08 am and will continue till 12:39 pm on 18th September. In such a situation, according to Udayatithi, Hartalika Teej will be celebrated on 18th September. Three auspicious coincidences are also taking place on the day of Hartalika Teej, making this day even more special.

Hartalika Teej fast is observed during Pradosh period. Take bath and wear clean clothes during Pradosh period. After this, make idols of Lord Shiva, Mother Parvati and Lord Ganesha from clay, decorate them and worship them. First of all worship Lord Ganesha. After this, offer a box of honey to Mother Parvati and offer dhoti to Lord Shiva. After this give the adornment and dhoti to a Pandit. After this, listen to the fast story and perform aarti. First of all perform Aarti of Lord Ganesha. After this, perform aarti of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. After this, keep vigil throughout the night and offer vermilion to Goddess Parvati in the morning. After this, break the fast by offering cucumber halwa.
