Teej has special significance in Hindu religion. Although the festival of Teej is celebrated thrice in a year, but all the three Teejs are very different from each other. The Teej celebrated on the third day of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month is called Hartalika Teej. Apart from this, two other Teej are Hariyali Teej and Kajri Teej. Hartalita Teej is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati. It is believed that by observing the fast of Hartalika Teej one gets the blessings of unbroken good fortune.

The fast of Hartalika Teej is observed every year on the third day of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. This Teej is also called Teeja in North India as well as Central India. Married women observe this fast for unbroken good fortune. Unmarried girls also observe this fast to wish for a good groom. The importance of this fast is more than other Teej because Mother Parvati had observed this fast to get Lord Shiva as her husband. There is a tradition of observing Nirjala fast on Hartalika Teej.

Importance of Hartalika Teej

The main difference between Hartalika Teej and Hariyali Teej is that Hartalika Teej falls in the Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month and Hariyali Teej falls in the Shukla Paksha of Sawan month. Worshiping and fasting during this Teej is more difficult than other Teejs. There are strict rules for observing the fast of Haritalika Teej. If these are not followed, the fast is not considered complete.

By observing this fast, Mother Parvati blesses all women with the long life of their husband, prosperity of the family and progress of their children. If a virgin girl observes this fast and worships Lord Shiva, then she gets the desired groom. Also, those girls who are facing any obstacle in their marriage, then by observing this fast, all those obstacles will be removed.

Auspicious time of puja

According to the Hindu calendar, Haritalika Teej will start at 11:08 pm on September 17 and will end the next day at 12:39 pm on September 18. According to Udayatithi, this fast will be observed on 18th September. The auspicious time for worship is from 6 to 8:24 in the morning of 18 September. It is considered auspicious to worship Lord Shankar and Mother Parvati at this time.

Hartalika Teej Puja Method

On the day of Hartalika Teej, one should wake up early in the morning and take bath.

Wear clean clothes and do sixteen adornments.

After this, women should take a pledge to keep the fast.

On the day of Hartalika Teej, light a ghee lamp near the idol of Lord Shiva and Parvati made of sand and clay and worship her with full rituals.

Along with Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati, an idol made of clay of Lord Ganesha should also be installed.

Offer Dhatura, Bhang and sandalwood on the idol of Lord Shankar.

Offer flowers, vermilion, Akshat, sixteen makeup items, chunri, red saree, mehndi, etc. to Mother Parvati.

After worship, one should recite Vrat Katha and then at the end Aarti should be performed.

After worshiping Shiva Parvati, do take the blessings of the elders of the house.

By taking the blessings of the elders, the married women get unbroken good fortune. Along with this, happiness and peace remains in the family.

On the day of Hartalika Teej, urad dal, rice, wheat, green fruits and sixteen makeup items should be donated to needy women.

Fasting women should wake up in the night and next morning after the Aarti, vermilion should be offered to Maa Parvati and halwa should also be offered. Open the fast only after that.

By keeping the fast of Hartalika Teej, fasting women should avoid sleeping during the day.

Fasting women should avoid getting angry on the day of Hartalika Teej.

Married women should keep a fast on this Teej and have a feeling of love towards everyone and should not speak harsh words to anyone.
