Today Hartalika Teej is being celebrated across the country. This festival has special significance in Hindu religion. It is believed that whichever married woman observes a waterless fast on this day and worships Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati, God fulfills her every wish and her married life is also filled with happiness. Among the three Teej observed in the year, the fast of Hartalika Teej is the most special and difficult. On this day, women keep a 24-hour waterless fast and break the fast the next day only after immersing the idols of Lord Shiva, Mother Parvati and Lord Ganesha. Before this, a vigil is held throughout the night.
On the day of Hartalika Teej, women do sixteen adornments and also offer adornments to Goddess Parvati. After this, after worshiping as per the rituals, she recites the Vrat Katha. It is believed that the fast of Hartalika Teej is considered incomplete without listening or reading the story. In such a situation, recitation of Vrat Katha after puja is very important.
Mother Parvati was the first to fast
The fast of Hartalika Teej is observed every year on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. According to religious beliefs, the fast of Hartalika Teej was first observed by Mother Parvati to get Lord Shiva as her husband. This story was narrated by Lord Shiva himself to Mother Parvati to remind her of her previous birth. Let us know what is the fast story of Hartalika Teej-
This is the fast story
Lord Shiva told Mother Parvati that she had started rigorous penance from a very young age to get Lord Shiva as her husband. During this rigorous penance, Goddess Parvati consumed only air and dry leaves. In the harsh winter of Magh, he performed penance in water, in the scorching heat he heated his body in Panchagni and during the heavy rains of Shravan, he performed rigorous penance under the open sky. During this period he did not consume even a single grain of food or water.
Mother Parvati's father became sad after seeing her plight, but was unable to do anything even if he wanted to. In such a situation, one day after seeing her sorrow, Naradji came to Mother Parvati's house and told her father that Lord Vishnu was very pleased with the difficult penance of Mother Parvati and he wanted to marry her. There was no limit to the happiness of Parvati ji's father after hearing this from Naradji's mouth. He immediately agreed to this proposal. He said, what could be more joyful for a father than that his daughter becomes Lakshmi of her husband's house full of happiness and wealth. Naradji returned after getting the approval of Mother Parvati's father. When Mother Parvati came to know about this, she became sad because she had considered Lord Shiva as her husband in her mind, then how could she marry Lord Vishnu.
Understanding her mental condition, one of her friends asked the reason for her sadness and Mother Parvati told the whole story. On this her friend said, there is nothing to be worried about. He suggested a solution to Mother Parvati to get out of this situation. She said that she will take Goddess Parvati to a dense forest which is also a place of meditation. There she will be able to do her penance and her father will not even know. Mother Parvati did the same and got absorbed in the worship of Lord Shiva in a cave built in the forest. On the third day of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month, he built a Shivalinga from sand and observed a fast. During this, she kept singing songs in praise of Lord Shiva the whole night. Lord Shiva's samadhi was broken due to the difficult penance of Mother Parvati. He immediately reached Mother Parvati and asked her to ask for a groom. On this, Mother Parvati requested him to accept herself as his wife. On this Lord Shiva said Amen and returned to Mount Kailash. After this, the next morning, Mother Parvati broke the fast by floating all the ingredients in water.
Later, when Goddess Parvati's father reached the cave searching for her, Mother Parvati told him the whole story and said that she would go back with him only when he agreed to the marriage of her and Mahadev. Seeing the daughter's hard penance, the father's heart was filled and he agreed to this marriage. After some time, he got Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati married as per the rituals.
Lord Shiva said, O Parvati, our marriage became possible because of the fast you observed on Shukla Tritiya of Bhadrapada. In such a situation, any woman who fasts with a true heart on this day, her every wish will be fulfilled and she will be blessed with unbroken good fortune.
