HIV/AIDS: AIDS disease passes from mother to child, get tested after so many months of birth of the child

AIDS Disease in kids: If a woman has HIV, then there is a risk of this infection spreading from the mother to her child. If a child is infected with HIV and does not receive timely treatment, then this virus becomes the cause of AIDS.

AIDS is a disease whose cases are decreasing every year in India, but this disease has not gone away. AIDS is not fatal, but it makes the life of the infected person very difficult. The immune system becomes so weak that the person is not able to fight any other serious disease. AIDS disease is caused by HIV virus. In some cases, this virus also passes from the infected mother to the child. Due to which the child can become a victim of AIDS after birth. Doctors say that in 30 to 40 percent of the cases, there is a possibility of HIV being passed from mother to child. If a child becomes infected with HIV and it is not detected on time, the child may face problems throughout his life. However, many types of tests can be conducted to identify it in the child. A checkup is done at 18 months after birth. If the child is found infected with this disease then the doctor starts treating him.

Pediatrician Dr. Rakesh Kumar says that in about one-third of the cases, there is a possibility of HIV disease being passed from mother to child. Some tests are done only after the birth of the child, but the main test is done after 18 months. Parents are advised to get their child tested for HIV after 18 months if they are HIV infected. If the child is also found HIV positive then he is treated. For this, the child is given medicines and many types of therapy are also done.

Anti-retroviral therapy is resorted to

Dr. Deepak Kumar Suman at Safdarjung Hospital says that the risk of spreading this disease from an HIV infected mother to the child is up to 40 percent. If a woman is suffering from HIV and is planning a baby, then she is given anti-retroviral therapy. With this therapy the level of HIV infection is reduced. Due to which the risk of this disease in the child is significantly reduced.

After this, when the child is born, some tests are done, but after 18 months a test is done. Accurate information about HIV is available in it. If the child has HIV infection then his medicine continues. Treatment depends on the level of HIV in the child.
