How To Stop Hiccups: Sudden onset of hiccups while eating is a very common problem, due to which many people remain troubled. It is often seen that when a person is eating, hiccups start without any warning. Due to which many people get troubled. It forces the person to keep hesitating continuously. There can be many reasons for this sudden hiccup. Sometimes, eating too fast or consuming too much food at once causes accumulation of gas in the stomach, which causes hiccups. Some people also have the problem of hiccups due to certain types of foods. Apart from this, hiccups start occurring after drinking cold beverages like cold drinks etc. Not only this, sometimes hiccups start without any reason and last for a long time, due to which the person faces problems. Let us know the home remedies by adopting which you can get quick relief from hiccups.

Place your hands over your mouth. 

Place your hands on your nose and mouth. Keep breathing normally. Try to breathe through the mouth as much as possible. Doing this will provide additional carbon dioxide which can provide relief from hiccups. 

Hold the breath: 

Take a deep breath and hold the breath for a few seconds. Due to this, the level of carbon dioxide in the lungs increases due to which the diaphragm (air passage) gets relaxed. This stops the hiccups. 

Sucking Sugar:

Suck a small piece of sugar or sugar candy. This produces saliva which moistens the throat. This also stops hiccups. 

Drinking water:

Drink a glass of cold water slowly. Drinking water relaxes the diaphragm which stops hiccups. 

Placing hands on ears:

If hiccups are not stopping then close the ears with your fingers for about 30 seconds. Then lightly press the part below the ear on the back of the head. This area is the soft skin between the skull and earlobes. By pressing it, the vagus nerve gets a message to relax which then affects the diaphragm. Hiccups get cured when the diaphragm works smoothly.
