India showed big heart, will give 75,000 tons of rice to its Gulf friend

In August, the government had allowed export of 1.43 lakh tonnes of non-Basmati white rice to Bhutan, Mauritius and Singapore. DGFT had given permission to export 79,000 tonnes of non-Basmati white rice to Bhutan, 14,000 tonnes to Mauritius and 50,000 tonnes to Singapore.

Inflation is at its peak worldwide. India is also not spared from this. If we talk about rice, the prices remain high not only in the world but also in India. Even after that, India has once again shown its big heart. This time India is exporting thousands of tonnes of rice to its Gulf friend UAE. In fact, the Indian government has allowed the export of 75,000 tonnes of non-Basmati white rice to the UAE on September 25.

Exports are allowed through National Cooperative Export Limited (NCEL), the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification. Although the export of non-Basmati white rice was banned on July 20 to boost domestic supplies, export to other countries has been allowed to meet their food security needs and on request from the government.

Exported to these countries also

Earlier in August, the government had allowed export of 1.43 lakh tonnes of non-Basmati white rice to Bhutan, Mauritius and Singapore. DGFT had given permission to export 79,000 tonnes of non-Basmati white rice to Bhutan, 14,000 tonnes to Mauritius and 50,000 tonnes to Singapore. Meanwhile, the head of the UN agency recently said that India's rice export ban is pushing up prices around the world, increasing the risk of political instability in Asia and Africa, Bloomberg reported.

India's share in rice in the world is 40 percent

Prices for a crop vital to half the world hit the highest in almost 15 years after a top shipping company curbed exports. India's share in global rice trade in the last three years was about 40 percent. Rising prices are raising concerns about food insecurity for the billions of people in Asia and Africa who depend on grains.
