Japanese Consulate officer's wife robbed, Mumbai Police arrested the accused in five hours

Acting on the victim's complaint, Mumbai Police swung into action and based on clues from CCTV cameras, traced and arrested the accused within five hours.

The wife of a senior Japanese Consulate official in Mumbai was targeted by a miscreant on Tuesday evening. It snatched her handbag containing Rs 11,000 cash, identity card and documents. The incident happened when the 52-year-old wife, a resident of Malabar Hills, was heading to Horniman Circle in south Mumbai with her husband to experience Indian culture and watch the Ganpati procession.

Acting on the victim's complaint, Mumbai Police swung into action and based on clues from CCTV cameras, traced and arrested the accused within five hours. According to information received from media reports, 26-year-old accused Mohammad Arbaaz Abdul Sattar Siddiqui works as a driver and is a resident of Samuel Street, Pydhoni.

Looted while watching Ganpati procession

Let us inform that the wife of the Japanese Consulate officer had visited Taj Wellington Mews and later went towards Horniman Circle to watch the Ganpati procession around 7.45 pm on Wednesday. During this time, a scoundrel riding a scooter came and pulled her handbag. According to the police, there were Rs 11,000 in cash, identity cards and documents in the handbag.

Robber caught by police through CCTV footage

When Mumbai Police came to know about this, they immediately registered a case under section 392 of IPC for robbery and started investigation. After this, local police teams from Zone-1 started tracking the accused through CCTV footage. Shortly after the incident, Siddiqui was picked up from Pydhoni area. Previous cases of theft are registered against him in MRA Marg police station. The police officer said that within just five hours of the crime being registered, we arrested the accused and recovered the valuables.
