All women observe this fast for 16 consecutive days and worship with full rituals. According to the English calendar, this fast will be observed from 22 September 2023 to 6 October 2023. According to the Hindu calendar, Mahalakshmi fast starts from the Ashtami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhado and will end on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Ashwin. Mainly this fast is observed for 16 days to please Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Worshiping and reciting Goddess Lakshmi during these 16 days brings wealth, happiness and prosperity in the house. If a devotee cannot fast for the full 16 days during Maha Lakshmi Vrat, then he can keep the first 3 fasts or the last 3 fasts.

Rules of Mahalaxmi Vrat

During Mahalaxmi Vrat, Goddess Lakshmi should be worshiped in the morning for sixteen consecutive days.

In this fast, there is a belief of worshiping all the eight forms of Goddess Mahalakshmi.

According to religious belief, those fasting have to wear a string with sixteen knots in their left hand.

After worshiping Goddess Lakshmi, sixteen pieces of Durva grass should be dipped in water and sprinkled on the body.

After Maa Lakshmi Puja, recite Mahalaxmi Vrat Katha.

People observing Mahalakshmi fast should not consume meat, alcohol etc. during these 16 days.

There is a belief of worshiping the Kalash on the last day of the fast. Fill some coins or Akshat in the water of the Kalash.

Place betel or mango leaves on the Kalash, place coconut on top and then apply sandalwood, turmeric and kumkum paste on the Kalash.

Any new cloth should be tied on the Kalash.

To break Mahalakshmi fast, offer only kheer as prasad to Goddess Lakshmi.

Do not consume sour things during Mahalakshmi fast.
