Manmohan Singh also had to give 4 months notice period on changing job, the story is 55 years old

The country's former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has turned 91 today. Before becoming the Prime Minister, he was also a Professor of Economy, Economist, Bureaucrat, RBI Governor and Finance Minister of the country. There is a 55 year old incident when he had to serve a notice period of 4 months to change his job.

Today, when someone changes jobs, he finds it difficult to serve the notice period of 2 to 3 months. From TCS to Infosys or Reliance, any corporate company in the country has to serve a notice period of 2 to 3 months to its employees before changing jobs. If this is not done, companies often take strict action like blacklisting the employees or deducting money from the full and final payment. But there is an incident about 55 years old related to the former Prime Minister of the country Manmohan Singh. When he had served a notice period of not 2 or 3 but 4 months for changing his job.

Manmohan Singh had handled many important responsibilities before becoming the Prime Minister of India. In true sense, he is known more as a selected economist of the world than as a Prime Minister. His economics theory is taught in universities like Oxford, while Cambridge University also gives scholarships to graduation students in his name. Despite this, Manmohan Singh's life has been very simple.

Job offer in Delhi School of Economics

This story of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh serving 4 months notice period is from the year 1969. At that time he used to be a professor of Economics in Punjab University. Meanwhile, they met during a program in New York. N. Raj, who in those days was the director of Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University. He offered Manmohan Singh to join Delhi University.

In those days, Delhi School of Economics was recognized as an institute which had prepared excellent people at national and international level. The specialty of this institute was that the professors and students here often worked with the Government of India. Manmohan Singh could not refuse the offer to join Delhi School of Economics.

When served 4 months notice period

Manmohan Singh had spent a long time in Punjab University, so it was not easy for him to leave his job there. Vice Chancellor of Panjab University A. C. Joshi did not accept his resignation, instead he asked him to go on leave for a few days. But Manmohan Singh had decided to come to Delhi. In March 1969 he resigned from Panjab University. Within a few days, Vice Chancellor Suraj Bhan wrote a letter to him asking him to reconsider his decision.

Manmohan Singh's daughter Daman Singh has mentioned in her book 'Strictly Personal: Manmohan and Gursharan' that the university wanted a smooth transition when changing jobs. Therefore, Manmohan Singh had served a notice period of 4 months instead of the mandatory notice period of one month.

Decisions that changed the fate of the country

This sincerity of Manmohan Singh towards his work was clearly visible even after he became the Prime Minister. His government worked to bring crores of people of the country out of poverty. Made MNREGA law to guarantee employment to villagers, passed Food Security Act to provide freedom from hunger and made 'Right to Education' a fundamental right to ensure good education to all. Today Manmohan Singh has turned 91 years old.
