In Mughal history, the names of a few women were recorded who turned the tide. One such name is Roshanara. Roshanara, daughter of Shahjahan and Mumtaz Mahal, took a step which cleared the way for Aurangzeb's rule in India. Roshan, if she had not taken this step, perhaps India would never have got the most cruel emperor of the Mughals.
Roshanara Begum, born on 3 September 1617 in Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh, took a turn in Mughal history which led to devastation and its scars are still alive.
This is how the story started
The story is of that period when Aurangzeb was desperate to do anything to gain power. Shah Jahan was aware of the desire of his son Aurangzeb. He wanted Prince Dara Shikoh to take over his throne, but also knew that Aurangzeb could do anything to gain power. Tired of Aurangzeb's exploits, one day he finally took a decision which had every chance of ruining Aurangzeb's plans.
According to the report of News9 , Shah Jahan called Aurangzeb to Delhi to end the growing hatred between Dara and Aurangzeb for power. Aurangzeb had also agreed to come, but in reality it was not an initiative for reconciliation. It was a hoax. Emperor Shah Jahan wanted to imprison Aurangzeb by doing this and then was in the mood to end his game forever.
Roshanara got this information from secret sources. Shahjahan's elder daughter Jahanara was fond of brother Dara Shikoh. At the same time, the second daughter Roshanara was fond of brother Aurangzeb and wanted to see him become the king.
Roshanara saved Aurangzeb's life
When Roshanara came to know about this conspiracy of his father Shahjahan, he immediately sent a message to Aurangzeb and warned him. Through his message, Roshan requested Aurangzeb to stay away from Delhi. Aurangzeb's life was saved by this step of Roshanara. This incident had told Aurangzeb that Shahjahan was not in the mood to hand over power to him at any cost.
Only after this incident, Aurangzeb along with his brothers made a move to remove Dara from the way and was successful. Took over the Mughal throne after imprisoning his father. After taking over the power, he gave the highest respect to the life saving sister i.e. Roshan Ara.
Roshanara honored with the title of Padshah Begum
After becoming the Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb bestowed the title of Padshah Begum on Roshanara. Gave him respect by making him the head of the harem. Aurangzeb gave many big posts to Roshanara. For example, he was made the biggest Mansabdar of the Mughal army. Whenever Aurangzeb was away from the Sultanate, the entire army followed Roshanara's orders. In this way, if Roshan Ara had not saved Aurangzeb's life, it was certain for Dara Shikoh to become the king. Had this been the case, neither would Aurangzeb have gained power nor would he have crossed the limits of cruelty. Then Mughal history would have been different.
