Modi government in action before elections, potholes will disappear from the country's roads in three months

It seems that Modi government has come into action mode before the elections. The government has announced that roads across the country will become pothole-free by December.

A lot of work has been done on roads during the tenure of Modi government. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has done the work of laying a network of highways and expressways across the country. Now, just before the assembly elections of many states and the Lok Sabha elections next year, a big announcement has been made by the government. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari says that by the end of this year i.e. by December, all the national highways of the country will become pothole free.

Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday that the government is working on the policy of making all the national highways of the country pothole free by the end of this year. The government is giving priority to road construction under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) policy.

Fixed targets till December

The government has set a target to make the national highways free from potholes by the end of December this year. Along with this, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is also strengthening the contracts for performance based maintenance and short-term maintenance. Generally, roads in the country are constructed on the basis of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) and Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) apart from BOT.

Nitin Gadkari said in a conference here that the need for maintenance of roads built through EPC starts much earlier. Whereas roads become better through BOT because the contractor also knows that he will have to bear the maintenance cost for the next 15-20 years. Therefore, our government has decided to build roads on a large scale through BOT.

Potholes will disappear from the roads

On this occasion, Nitin Gadkari said that in view of the possibility of damage to the highways and formation of potholes due to rain, the ministry is conducting a safety audit of the national highways. A policy is being made to ensure that national highways are free from potholes. Young engineers are being taken on board to make this project successful.

The ministry has so far mapped the entire 1,46,000 km long national highway network. Now the government is going to do the work of removing potholes from these roads by December this year.
