New hijab rule in Iran, ban on women's tight clothes, ban on men too

The Government of Iran has prepared a new dress code. The Iranian Parliament also passed a bill regarding this. Now the bill has to be passed by the Guardian Council, a group of clerics. Both men and women will have to follow the new dress code. A provision of ten years in jail and lakhs of rupees fine has been made for the violators.

A new dress code is being implemented in Iran. This time, rules will be implemented not only for women but also for men. The Iranian Parliament has passed a bill related to this. If there is a ban on tight clothes for women, then men will also have to wear clothes according to the new dress code. If women are caught without hijab and found guilty, they can be sentenced to ten years in prison. The bill has got the support of almost all the MPs in the Parliament.

After being passed by Iran's parliament, the bill has to be vetted by the Guardian Council, a group of clerics and legal experts. After this it will become law. In Parliament, 152 votes were cast in support of this bill, while 34 votes were cast in opposition. Apart from these, seven MPs did not vote. This bill has come at a time when women's anger came to the fore again on the anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death. Women in Iran had strongly protested after Amini's arrest and death in custody for allegedly not wearing hijab.

Women started seen without hijab and in western dress

Last year, in months-long protests, women burned their headscarves, cut their hair and were seen on the streets in Western dress. During this period, hundreds of people allegedly lost their lives in police action. In the days that followed, it was seen that women had stopped wearing hijab. She started being seen in public places without a headscarf. For surveillance, the Iranian government installed CCTV cameras in the market and at intersections.

Women will not wear tight clothes, men will also follow the rules

Despite the presence of moral police on the streets, women were seen fearlessly in public places. Now moral police can be given strict orders to enforce the new rules. After the approval of the Guardian Council for the proposed law, the police will deal strictly with not only women but also men. Dress codes for women have been in effect in Iran since the 1979 revolution.

Rules for men and women in Iran's new dress code

There is a provision in the proposed law that women cannot wear tight clothes or there will be a ban on clothes that reveal body parts. The new law, based on the country's Sharia rules, provides that after puberty, women and girls will have to cover their hair with hijab and wear long, loose clothes to hide parts of their body. Men will be prohibited from wearing clothes that reveal their chest or the area above their ankles.

Fine of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh, ten years in jail

In the current law, for violating the rules, there is a provision of 10 days or two months in jail or a fine of 5 thousand to 50 thousand Iranian Rials or in rupee terms, 9 to 984 rupees. In the proposed law, the punishment has been increased to ten years and a fine of Rs 180-380 million or Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh has been made on those who violate the rules. Apart from these, those who, in collaboration with media, NGOs or foreign governments, 'promote nudity' or make fun of hijab, will definitely be fined and jailed. Besides, fine will also be imposed on the owners of those vehicles in which women are traveling without hijab.
