Now sugar will increase the tension of the government, there may be a decline of 14% in production, this is the reason

West Indian Sugar Mills Association President BB Thombare says that the sugar production season 2023-24 will start from October 1. This season, Maharashtra, the country's largest sugar producing state, can produce only up to 9 million metric tons, which will be 1.5 million tons less than last year.

In the coming months, instead of decreasing, inflation may increase further. There may be a decline in sugarcane production in the crop year 2023-24, which may affect sugar production. In such a situation, sugar prices may increase. It is being said that Maharashtra, the country's top sugarcane producing state, has received much less rainfall than average in the month of August. In such a situation, it is feared that sugar production may decline by 14% in the year 2023-24, which will reach its lowest in four years. Experts say that currently there is sufficient stock of sugar in the government stores. This is not going to affect the prices in the retail market that much. However, due to the impact of sugar production in India, sugar will become expensive in the global market.

If sugar production decreases in the crop year 2023-24, inflation may increase. In such a situation, the central government can also ban the export of sugar to control inflation. This will increase the price of sugar in the global market. However, sugar is already close to its highest level in more than a decade. Within just 25 days, its price has increased by 3 percent. If sugar becomes more expensive in the coming days, it will benefit the farmers. With the rise in domestic prices, companies like Dwarikesh Sugar, Shree Renuka Sugars, Balrampur Chini and Dalmia Bharat Sugar will improve the margins of producers, which will help them make timely payments to farmers.

There has been 59% less rainfall in August

At the same time, Maharashtra had produced 10.5 million tonnes of sugar in the crop season 2022-23. According to Bibi Thombare, this time there was much less rainfall than average in the month of August. This has affected the growth of the sugarcane crop. Because during this time the sugarcane crop needs more irrigation, so that the plants grow faster. According to him, there has been 59% less rainfall in August, due to which sugar production may be affected.

Can ban export of sugar

Let us tell you that in the sugar production season 2021-22, Maharashtra had produced a record 13.7 million tonnes of sugar. This is the reason why a record 11.2 million tonnes of sugar was exported from India in the year 2022. But, there was a decline in sugar production in the season 2022-23. Maharashtra farmers produced only 10.5 million tonnes of sugar. In such a situation, the central government reduced the export figure to 6.1 million tonnes. At the same time, last month such news had come out that the Central Government may ban the export of sugar in the season starting from October.
