Ekadashi date has great importance in Hindu religion. This day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Ekadashi fast is observed twice every month. One in Krishna Paksha and the other in Shukla Paksha. Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month is called Parivartini Ekadashi. It is believed that any devotee who worships Lord Vishnu with a true heart on this day gets relief from all troubles and the sins of many births are also washed away.
Parivartini Ekadashi this year is starting on 25th September at 7.55 am and will end on 26th September at 5 am. In such a situation, the fast will be observed on 25th September i.e. tomorrow only. At the same time, the fast of Ekadashi is not considered complete without Parana. Parana means breaking the fast. Ekadashi fast is broken on the next day i.e. on Dwadashi tithi. In such a situation, the time for breaking the fast on 26th September starts from 1:25 pm to 03:49 pm.
Do not break the fast at this time
There is also a belief regarding breaking of Ekadashi fast that the fast is not broken during Harivasar time. Once this time passes, break the fast only after that. Harivasar time on 26th September will end at 10.11 am. On the day of Parivartini Ekadashi, Vamana form of Lord Vishnu is worshipped. It is also said that while remaining in Yoga Nidra for four months, Shri Hari takes turns on the day of Parivartini Ekadashi. In such a situation, the importance of this day increases even more.
Parivartini Ekadashi fast should be concluded only after accepting the food offered to Lord Vishnu during the puja. Before breaking the fast, take bath and wear clean clothes and worship Lord Vishnu. The fast is broken only after sunrise.
Parivartini Ekadashi Story
According to the mythology, in Tretayuga, when the demon king Bali defeated the gods and took over the heaven and started troubling all the gods and goddesses, everyone, fed up with his atrocities, approached Lord Vishnu seeking help. Lord Vishnu assured that he would liberate them from the atrocities of demon king Bali. King Bali was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu and also used to do charity. Lord Vishnu was well aware of this. Due to this, Lord Vishnu came to Bali in the form of Vamana and asked for three steps of land as donation. When King Bali promised to give land, Vaman Dev assumed a monstrous form and placed one step on the earth and the other on heaven. When there was no room left to place the third step, King Bali moved his head forward and asked to place his head on it.
Lord Vishnu was pleased to see King Bali's commitment and made him the king of the underworld. After this, when King Bali asked him for a chance to go with him to the underworld and serve him, Lord Vishnu said that he would come and stay in the underworld for four months in a year. After this he placed his foot on Bali's head due to which he went to the underworld. It is believed that from Devshayani Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu resides in the underworld and remains in Yoga Nidra. Worshiping Lord Vishnu on this day removes bad luck and brings prosperity in the family.
