First, the central government has prepared new rules to deal with e-waste or say electronic waste, and now the government has fixed the average age of electrical appliances sold in India. What is the meaning of fixing the average age and what will happen by fixing the average age, let us give you information about this.
The government fixing the average age of electrical appliances clearly means that after the prescribed age, these appliances will be considered as e-waste. This average age will be for the companies manufacturing appliances and on this basis the companies will be given the target to destroy e-waste. The government has taken this decision so that e-waste can be destroyed.
What is the age of which product?
The average age of 134 electrical products has been fixed by the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment. Let us tell you that what is the age of the product, the average age of phone and laptop is five years, while the average age of refrigerator is 10 years, fan 10 years, washing machine 9 years, tablet-ipad five years, radio set. 8 years, the average life of an electrical train and a racing car (toy) will be only 2 years.
E-waste is emerging as a big problem for the country, in view of this, new rules have been implemented from April 1, only the companies generating e-waste will be responsible for destroying it. Companies will be required to obtain e-waste recycling certificate from any authorized recycler. Only after obtaining the certificate, companies will be allowed to manufacture new products by the government.
Example: Let us try to explain you through an example in easy language, suppose a company is manufacturing cameras and the average age of this product is 10 years, then 60 percent of the cameras made in 10 years will be destroyed. It will be mandatory to take the certificate from the authorized recycling dealer. On the basis of this certificate, CPCB aka Central Pollution Control Board will allow them to manufacture new products.
