So let us tell you whether the deadline for exchanging Rs 2000 notes will be extended…

Will the deadline be extended?

According to the report of Money Control, RBI can extend the deadline for exchanging Rs 2000 notes till October 31. A senior official, on condition of anonymity, has informed that RBI is considering extending the deadline to recall the remaining Rs 2000 notes worth Rs 24000 crore into the banking system. However, no concrete information has come from RBI in this matter yet.

Therefore the deadline may increase

According to the media report, while talking on this matter, the senior officer said that there are many reasons behind extending the deadline. In such a situation, RBI may consider increasing it once. A major reason behind extending the deadline is that many Indians live abroad. In such a situation, these NRIs will get one more month's time to deposit these notes in banks.

Till now Rs 3.32 lakh crore has come back

RBI had announced to stop the circulation of Rs 2000 notes on May 19, 2023 and bring them back to the banks. According to the central bank, as of March 31, 2023, a total of Rs 3.62 lakh crore worth Rs 2000 notes were in circulation, which had come down to Rs 3.56 lakh crore by May 19. According to the data released recently on September 1, 2023, Rs 2000 notes worth a total of Rs 3.32 lakh crore had returned to the banking system. In such a situation, by the beginning of September, a total of 93 percent of Rs 2000 notes have already entered the banking system. Even after this, notes worth about Rs 24,000 crore are still in the market.

RBI wants 100 percent notes back

According to experts, RBI is trying to get 100 percent of all Rs 2000 notes back into the banking system. For this, the bank can extend the deadline for withdrawal of Rs 2000 notes. You can get these notes exchanged by going to your nearest bank or post office.
